Substitution Cipher Generator
Type in any text to code a message. The generator is fairly simple to use. Those with trouble see below for some usage notes and helpful tips.
Plain Text Message:
Shift: Direction: Left Format: Yes Uppercase: Yes
Right No No
Coded Message:
Notes:
- The operation of the generator is fairly simple. First, type the text you want to code/decode into the Plain Text Message Box then, select your preferences. Shift and Direction should be the number of letters you would like to go and which way. For example, a shift of 3 letters right would turn the letter 'b' into a letter 'e' and a shift of 2 letters left would turn that same 'b' into a 'z'. The Format and Uppercase selections change how the code is displayed. The Format selection will output the text grouped in sets of five letters across the line with no punctuation marks. (Morse code didn't have codes for punctuation marks) Uppercase turns the text into uppercase letters.
- You can decode by choosing the opposite direction for coding.
- You can copy and paste this text into any document to make sure that the you have the correct coding. Also you can use this to check the student's coding skills by typing in their codes and choosing the opposite direction for coding.
- You can create the morse code by copying and pasting the English code into the a word processor like Word or WordPerfect and change the font to a Morse code font. If you don't have one you can download a freeware one here
